WEBINAR: Continuing to Improve Outcomes for Patients
At Kent Imaging, we’re making great strides at providing solutions that improve outcomes for patients. Our biggest challenge is in providing effective clinical education that demonstrates the tools that are available for measuring tissue perfusion and oxygenation and the benefits of using these diagnostic tools to improve outcomes.
We are very fortunate to have collaborations with many wound care professionals who are willing to share their experiences with these new technologies and present their learnings in a format that supports clinical education for physicians.
In a running series of blogs, I would like to highlight some of these presentations that have been prepared that provide significant value to caregivers to learn about these new technologies. The first of these presentations have been put together by Dr. Lawrence A. Lavery, DPM, who is a Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery, as well as Director of Clinical Research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX. His research group has published 283 peer-reviewed papers and received extramural funding from the VA, NIH, AHRQ, the American Diabetes Association, and two American Colleges of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
In his CME-style presentation, titled “Hyperspectral Imaging in Wound Healing”, Dr. Lavery provides insights on the clinical value of this new technology with a focus on the following topics:
Background and rationale for using light-based Hyperspectral Imaging (also known as NIRS – Near Infrared Spectroscopy)
Review of research data that has been collected and how it demonstrated how to predict ulcer healing
Discussion of using this technology in surgical flap section and survival with example cases of how to identify healers vs non-healers and when to implement more aggressive therapies earlier in the treatment protocol
Dr. Lavery, DPM
The reason we wanted to highlight this particular presentation is that Dr. Lavery provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the basics of hyperspectral (NIRS) imaging including several examples of how the technology can be used clinically. If you are short on time, we suggest that you listen to the following portions of the presentation highlighted below:
2:40 to 6:17 – overview of applications for measuring perfusion/oxygenation and use of hyperspectral imaging and St02 measurements.
16:04 to 17:28 - measuring impact of electrical stimulation to heal wounds using hyperspectral imaging
25:55 to 28:52 - example of a patient with an abscess that is detectable using hyperspectral imaging

The webinar is hosted by the Wound Care Learning Network. You can find the presentation by clicking the button below. Register with your email and watch this on-demand presentation any time.
Happy learning and look for a future blog that will provide another learning opportunity.
